Research abstract
The DAFĺs energy dependence is growing in scale and complexity as missions become more interconnected and technology driven. As a result, disruptions to these critical systems can expose DAF operations and facilities. Key mission assets require support through automated systems to ensure mission readiness and capability, enhance grid resilience, and reduce the environmental impact of energy systems. Point80 is an AI energy management solution, with proven results in one of the best airports in the world, providing a human-powered, machine learning engine for data-driven decision making and smart solutions for critical infrastructure safeguard, energy, and water management. The non-intrusive load monitoring (NILM) technology allows for the monitoring and control of energy usage on an appliance level without the need for individual sensors. It can determine power usage of each individual appliance in a building using a single sensor monitoring the building's total power usage. Moreover, Point80 directly connects with public databases such as weather data and social media feeds to gather information and leverages from existing IoT sensors to predict power outages, then the microgrid will ensure the functionality of essential energy systems during such event. Non-DoD use cases include civilian airports, manufacturing plants, and city management.
