Research abstract
The Department of the Air Force's (DAF) mission requires the service to provide seamless, adaptive, and resilient Multi-Capable Airmen (MCA) to perform across a range of mission types and tasks. The Just In Time Multi Mission Airmen/Warfighter (JITMMA/W) program managed by the Air Force Research Labs (AFRL) is developing the capability to support deployed personnel performing a wider variety of mission tasks across proficiencies that would support end users such as the 338th Training Squadron (338 TRS). Training squadrons need anytime, anywhere training for resilient readiness for large throughput regiments. There is no current solution for rapid, standardized knowledge dissemination throughout the DAF to ensure access to training readiness in austere locations and for novel tasks. The proposed effort, LessonsXR™, is an XR product developed by Design Interactive (DI), a component of our commercial product XRMentor®, for just in time, refresher, and formal classroom training, that can be used as a downloadable application and in the operational environment. LessonsXR™ delivers the right training content to the right Airmen at the right time and addresses critical requirements outlined in Operational Imperative (OI)-5: Resilient Forward Basing, OI-7: Readiness to Mobilize, Deploy, and Fight, Agile Combat Employment (ACE) and the focus of the Chief of Staff Air Force (CSAF) Lines of Effort (LOE) #3. The proposed effort will provide the novel capability for LessonsXR™ to automatically ingest technical orders (TOs) and incorporate an authoring portal. These added features will support 338 TRS training goals, DAF and AFRL strategic objectives, and produce MCA through training for agility operations using standardized content and other task data and analytics leading to effective mission performance. The adaptation would include: (1) automatically ingesting technical documentation content, such as manuals and current DAF TOs, (2) expanding DI’s internal authoring portal to be end user hardened and to allow non-developers to spatialize content, (3) hardening the system in preparation for Authority to Operate (ATO) through Risk Management Framework (RMF) cybersecurity compliance, and (4) completing multiple user-centered design cycles to ensure the adapted solution truly empowers the DAF end users. The ability to ingest TOs in LessonsXR™ provides an automated, standardized mechanism for Airmen to have current TOs and/or manuals integrated into their training thus ensuring compliance, standardization, and access to the most current versions. Partnering with a commercially available platform RedShred, LLC. (redshred®), will allow LessonsXR™ to take existing TOs and convert them into a set of procedures and steps - providing SMEs/instructors the ability to combine all the necessary content together to self-author just in time, refresher, and classroom training that can be used immediately.
