Research abstract

In response to a pressing need for advanced exoskeleton technology tailored to military litter and patient transport scenarios, nou Systems Inc. has formed a multidisciplinary alliance and begun developing a semi-passive, multi-joint exoskeleton. Our approach centers on a hybrid two-part system designed to redistribute the load away from the hand /wrist effectively eliminating the need for continuous gripping. By doing so, we significantly reduce force applied to maximum voluntary contraction ratios; drastically extending SMs maximum tolerance times. We achieve this through an effective load dispersion strategy where individual muscle groups assume complementary roles in load bearing, litter control, and stabilization. The Phase I work will heavily focus on rapid prototyping and evaluations, and in doing so, refine our design in preparation for Phase II. Phase II will include human subject research followed by two rounds of prototypes deliveries to the Army Research labs. Our technology represents a crucial bridge between existing tactics and futuristic technology. It empowers SMs by increasing their adaptability to augmentation technology, ultimately enhancing mission success and soldier well-being. Our collaborative effort and innovative approach ensure that TroupHauler will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of military exoskeleton technology.
