Research abstract
ĢForce Shield proposes Lightweight Aircrew Body Armor ĢTechnical Abstract:Ā Our body armor is: ĢPLIABLE: able to curve and fit the body shape of all the 21st century aircrew, of every gender ĢLIGHTWEIGHT: 5 times lighter than Kevlar at equivalent strength ĢCUT RESISTANT and SLASH RESISTANT and BOUYANT, which is especially advantageous in SERE environments ĢWe will do PHASE I applied research & development on our baseline materials for a PHASE II ready system with maximum common components for a body armor family that can serve many needs such as: ĢFolded to fit in ejection set survival kits, offering Level III and Level IV protection to downed aircrew in a SERE environment; ĢLow thermal impact armor w/mission configurable Level IIIA, III and Level IV protection for flightline ops and preflight ĢLightweight low storage volume ōquick donö protection, for space & weight efficient storage on non-ejection seat aircraft ĢGrown into other applications, e.g., protect aircrew from SAM/Air-to-Air missile warhead fragments, etc. ??????????????By doing Phase I applied research we can take our existing materials and use different layers, orientations, hard/soft components and more to create a family of armor that meets all USAF needs for all USAF members and body shapes. Aircrew that are in a SERE environment do not need the same protection as airmen providing Base Defense. However, the materials are similar, and it will be better for cost, logistics and sustainment if these commonalities can be used. Our existing materials are pliable, lightweight and tough.Ā
