Research abstract
SeaWatch: O2GÆs SeaWatch is a free mobile app allowing fisherfolk to report vessels and log catch data. Designed to be user-friendly and private, users can report IUU vessels with photos and details, with the app automatically adding GPS coordinates and timestamps. For clients, SeaWatch offers a data stream of geotagged vessel reports via a paid API. Fisherfolk gain an avenue to monetize catch data. Moreover, fishers in developing regions can build creditworthiness through the app by documenting their catches. This information aids in offering them microloans, increasing based on their app engagement and repayment records. Smart Mast: Before 2022, high-bandwidth sea communications were non-existent. Traditional methods, such as satellite phones, were limited and expensive. In 2022, SpaceX's Starlink began offering affordable, high-bandwidth data for maritime use. Although Starlink Maritime targets luxury sectors, when paired with technologies like SmartMast, it can cater to developing regions. SmartMast pioneers in video capture over vast distances. Unlike the current market dependent on pricey radar and sensors for detecting vessels, SmartMast leans towards creating cost-efficient sensors suitable for challenging maritime conditions. Its innovation extends to computer vision and optical engineering to detect vessels without expensive hardware. Additionally, SmartMast's self-sufficient power generation allows an inclusive ecosystem for scientific data collection, benefiting multiple sectors. Scope of Work: OOG will research the technical requirements to train fishermen and other commercial sailors to detect and report on aircraft flyovers.Ā ???????Quartermaster AI (QMAI), a sub-contractor / partner of OOG, will research the technical requirements to train its SmartMast product on aircraft detections, source weather data, and include a microphone to listen for engine acoustics.Ā OOG and QMAI will deliver a combined final report that presents the technical research findings and proposes a Phase 2 Scope to implement solutions for the findings.Ā
