Research abstract

Energy abundance is an acute issue for the Air Force, especially when considering austere operations in remote environments.á Antares proposes to perform a trade study and associated downslection on Air Force and/or Space Force operational use-cases to optimize the design of our modular micro-scale nuclear reactor.á The Antares Microreactor provides rapidly deployable energy for 5+ years within 48 hours, making it ideal for use cases where access to a constant fossil fuel supply is difficult, costly, and/or vulnerable.á The system is intentionally designed to be operated autonomously and reliably in any mission environment including space. Each unit is 300kWe and can be deployed as a singular reactor or as part of a microgrid of multiple reactors plus battery storage. Up to 5 units (1.5MWe) are deployable in a microgrid from a single C-17 flight, with pulsed power capability to 8MWe.
