Research abstract

This project will develop an intelligent wireless charging system for automated drone fleet management. It leverages patented Metamaterial Magnetic Coupling technology to simultaneously charge and monitor multiple unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) without cables.Ā R&D will focus on:Ā ĀĀĀ Designing wireless charging stations for simultaneous multi-drone chargingĀ ĀĀĀ Developing fleet management algorithms to optimize charging cycles and patternsĀ ĀĀĀ Integrating modular battery systems for automated swaps and chargingĀ ĀĀĀ Testing charging performance across diverse commercial and military drone modelsĀ ĀĀĀ Validating increased drone flight endurance and availability from hands-free chargingĀ Anticipated benefits include 3X extended drone flight times between charges, 5X fewer drone maintenance man-hours per flight hour, and 10-20% decreased battery costs over lifecycle. This enhances Air Force drone fleet readiness, lowers costs, and increases mission capabilities. The core technologies have strong commercial potential for autonomous delivery drones, commercial aviation, and electric vehicle charging.Ā
