Research abstract
Department of Defense Personnel and cleared contractors are mandated to report foreign travel to their company Facility Security Officer (FSO) who will input the data into the Defense Information Security System (DISS) as of August 2022. On June 9, 2023, the Secretary of Defense approved a set of findings and recommendations to improve the DoD policies and procedures related to protecting classified national security information (CNSI). One of those recommendations was to ôReinforce existing security policies and practices to ensure compliance and accountability down to the lowest levels of the Department.ö Cleared Employee Foreign Travel Reporting (CE-FTR) was created to do just that.á The CE-FTR application streamlines the reporting and collection of DoD personnel and cleared contractors securely and efficiently. This research and development effort will explore integrations into existing Global Distribution Systemsáto further enhance the ability to accurately and timely report foreign travel per DoD guidance. These updates will include access to near real-time data, scalability of reports from micro to macro levels, and accessibility for all levels of DoD.
