Research abstract
Pivotal Space dba Leap Space (Leap) has self-invested in the creation, testing, and validation of a new type of rocket engine system referred to as Dual-Mode-Rocket-Engines (DMRE). Leapĺs now patented DMRE rocket engine system was shown to provide a closed solution for solving an unprecedented feat in spaceflight history ľ delivering payload to orbit with a rocket consisting of a single rocket stage. Single Stage to Orbit, or SSTO, is often referred to as the holy grail of spaceflight due to the low complexity nature of the vehicle architecture. Leap will use their DMRE engine technology to develop the lowest cost orbital rocket ever created, the Leap Springbok 1 Launcher. Springbok 1 will be capable of delivering 1000kg of useful cargo to low-earth-orbit (LEO) by 2027. The vehicle system will meet the needs of the US DoD responsive space directive by providing a high reliability, low cost, and readily available and mass producible launch vehicle capable of delivering significant payload to orbit from a mobile launch platform with 24 hours of notice.
