Research abstract

The SITE SELECTION AND VISITATION SYSTEM (ôSystemö) is an AI-enabled software-as-a-service that uses public and USG data (such as satellite photos) to 1) identify, 2) evaluate, 3) prioritize, and 4) simulate potential contingency and expedient airfields based on user-selected criteria (EX: location, length, width, obstacles and resource availability) providing commanders with a powerful, flexible tool to support rapid, effective basing decisions supporting Agile Combat Employment (ACE) and Operational Imperative 5 ľ Resilient Basing.á How it works:á Users select a region, nation or mission location and establish priority decision-making criteria (such as runway length, surface, slope and elevation, obstacle clearance, aircraft parking and hangar facilities, security and perimeter defense, access to infrastructure and transportation, and distance from strategic locations).áá The System then uses the criteria to generate a list of potential contingency locations prioritized via a calculated, multi-factor ôsuitability score,ö transforming qualitative opinions of suitability into quantitative proof, streamlining the process of making consistent, informed comparisons across basing options.á Users can evaluate each proposed location by reviewing the site map, the components of the suitability score, and airfield layouts.á After reviewing results, users can easily adjust queries with new criteria and re-run the search, producing a new, prioritized list of locations with the adjusted criteria.á Once a potential location is identified, the System uses machine vision and AI to produce a high-fidelity, interactive 3D simulation of the location which allows users to conduct virtual ôon the groundö site visits of austere or expedient airfields to inform critical planning choices relating to aircraft siting, resource availability, security, risk evaluations, and housing. áThe high-fidelity simulation includes accurate layout and measurement of airfield facilities. The System uses a patent-pending software technology comprised of 1) machine vision to identify and evaluate potential contingency locations from satellite photos (and other sources), 2) photogrammetry to translate multiple 2D images (and other data) into an immersive and realistic 3D airfield model, and 3) an interactive platform for the virtual site visits.á Key features include: 1) intuitive search interface allows for easy queries and rapid adjustments based on live results, 2) calculated ôsuitability scoreö value that permits rapid assessment and direct comparison of multiple, diverse contingency locations, 3) customizable selection criteria related to ground features (runway/facilities), location (distance to cities/ports), and resources (fuel/housing), 4) data sourced from public and USG sources, especially focused on expedient locations (such as roads), and 5) simulation of chosen locations in interactive, immersive 3D with high-fidelity visuals and accurate dimensions.á
