Research abstract

Missile Defense Agency (MDA) requires updated communication antenna to support future use cases for the SM3 platform. IERUS proposed to leverage our experience with novel antennas for harsh environments combined with our knowledge of the Ballistic Missile Defense System (BMDS) and its relevant sensors and interceptors to generate an antenna solutions that supports the long term goals of MDA for the SM3 platform. IERUS will pull from our catalog of antennas that cover the relevant bands and from relevant previous end-applications to accelerate the program and reduce overall design risk. IERUS will use our rigorous antenna modeling approach and leverage the academic research experience our partners bring to thoroughly analyze the trade space and determine optimal design candidates to carry forward into the Phase II effort. At the end of the Phase I effort IERUS expects to have evaluated several candidate antenna designs through analysis and experimental measurements in order to generate a down-select recommendation to MDA to carry forward to the Phase II and a future qualification effort.
