Research abstract

Under this project, ISL will provide the Air Force with a novel electronic warfare technology that includes (1) Counter Fully adaptive Techniques (CFAT) for advanced threat suppression, (2) Cognitive Fully Adaptive Radar (CoFAR) threat model, and (3) High-fidelity hardware-in-the-loop (HWIL) technology on COTS hardware with realistic radio frequency (RF) environments for optimizing CFAT technology. ISL will leverageá the highly successful RFView« family of RF Digital Engineering tools to generate realistic high-fidelity RF channel responses that are essential to the development of this technology. All the interactions between the CFAT and CoFAR systems will be faithfully captured by the proposed HWIL simulator in order to capture all the real-world effects. In other words, the HWIL system represents and implements the complex RF channel using an appropriate high-fidelity channel impulse response. This ensures that all the measurements within the observeľorientľdecideľact (OODA) cycle of the CoFAR system are representative of an operational system. With the rapidly emerging threat environment, the proposed technology is critical to the preparedness of the blue force against advanced adaptive and cognitive threats. This comprehensive solution delivers to the Air Force a complete EW HWIL system including advanced techniques implemented for both the blue and red players. ISL has also successfully developed and demonstrated all prerequisite requirements to successfully execute all requirements for thisádirect-to-phase II (D2P2) Fully Adaptive Radar Electronics (FARE). These technologies were developed and vetted using a combination of previous DAF SBIR funds, and non-SBIR/STTR funds which consisted of a combination of internal research and development (IRAD) and OUSD (Office of the Undersecretary of Defense) funds.
