Research abstract

This proposal for Sequential Phase II STTR development of our Intelligent Detection of Human generated Threats (IDEHT) system. ĀIDEHT uses advanced artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) capabilities to detect emerging human generated physical threats to military forces and installations. The objectives of the IDEHT program are to create algorithms and software that analyze the electromagnetic spectrum (EMS) to improve (a) situational awareness and (b) threat identification, prevention, and response; and to integrate the algorithms and software into a product that will support electromagnetic spectrum (EMS) analysis requirements and rapidly transition to an Army program of record and the commercial market. In our initial Phase II effort, we developed a successful IDEHT prototype that surveils open-source data, such as social media and news, and uses advanced AI/ML capabilities to provide situational awareness and to identify threats. Under this Sequential Phase II (SP2), we will improve and expand the IDEHT prototype to include capabilities for surveying and analysis of the EMS. As the electromagnetic spectrum becomes increasingly crowded, it is critical that US forces can monitor radiofrequency (RF) spectrum usage, determine normal patterns of activity, and use that information to identify anomalous activity and threats. Despite this pressing need, current capabilities are quite limited and do not scale as the EMS becomes more crowded, resulting in operators being overloaded. ???????
