Research abstract

This Phase II proposal is for continued development and transition of our Intelligent Tool for managing HUman Requirements in human-automation systems (ITHUR). During Phase I we developed and validated the ITHUR system concept, which is based on Petri Net formalism to effectively describe the human component (HC) in the overall flow of task dynamics.  Our ITHUR solution captures the tasks that must be performed by the human-automation system by modeling the missions that they will collaboratively perform. The Petri Net model of the mission will be created using our Development and Runtime Environment for Aviation Mission Tasking and Mission Management (DREAMM) UI, discussed further in this proposal. We demonstrated ITHUR system components for process and task modeling, for accessing a human component knowledge base, and for an intuitive engineering interface. ITHUR is ready for full scale implementation and transition in Phase II.  Most important, in Phase I we secured a $500,000 matching funds investment for ITHUR transition from Pacific Defense, Inc., a leader in electronic warfare technology and a minority investor in Perceptronics. Pacific Defense will provide Perceptronics with a $300,000 subcontract to transition ITHUR technology to the Marine Electronic Warfare Family of Systems (MEGFoS), a Marine Corps Program of Record for which Pacific Defense is a key contractor. Pacific Defense will also provide $200,000 to facilitate further transition to other military and civilian opportunities.
