Research abstract

Event based neuromorphic sensing / dynamic vision sensors (DVS) is an emerging technology that is beginning its transition from the research community to commercial sensing products. In doing so, a DVS sensor represents a dramatic break from decades of frame-based sensing in that individual pixels report out changes in their incident illumination asynchronously in near real time when the change occurred, and conversely report nothing when illumination levels remain fixed. To date, all work in this field has been with visible sensors, in this program Nu-Trek will develop the Radiation Hardened Dual Band Neuromorphic Sensor (RHDBNS) readout integrated circuit (ROIC), which is designed to support dual band operation in the long wave infrared (LWIR), providing low latency sampling including reset times under 10 ms and event rates over 10^7 events per second in addition to conventional dual-band imaging. The RHDBNS ROIC builds on two prior generations of radiation hardened designs and is capable of surviving and performing in a hostile radiation environment.
