Research abstract

CBAM is superior because it has strong material properties, can be upgraded to new materials easily, and can do this at industry-leading speeds. This last point is what sets CBAM apart from the competition. Because CBAM uses well-developed 2D-printing techniques to do 3D printing, IO can straight-forwardly scale CBAM using these time-tested 2D-printing technologies to reach mass-production speeds 50-100x faster than any other competitive AM technology available today. This makes Impossible Objects the only known AM technology that has a clear path to speeds that can compete with the fastest conventional manufacturing techniques, such as injection molding.  Fundamentally we are proposing to develop a novel 3D-printable composite material using already-developed substrates, which will provide material properties 2-3x greater than today. Matched with CBAM’s unparalleled speed potential, this would allow for 3D-printed mass-produced high-performance parts on a scale not yet seen.
