Research abstract

The focus of the Surf Zone Optical Imaging System (SZOIS) SBIR is to mitigate the effects of the ocean surface on target imagery due to numerous sources of clutter, such as white caps, foam, suspended bubbles and sand, high turbidity, rocks, coral, and other biologics in the Surf Zone (SZ) and Very Shallow Water (VSW) environments, while supporting day and night operations. Aretķ recently discovered that the most mature 3D Flash LiDAR technology for Mine Countermeasures (MCM) and other Navy program applications is no longer available. This creates a void in 3D Flash LiDAR technologies in the wavelength range that could address MCM needs, such as imaging in the SZ. As a solution to this urgent need, Aretķ and The Sensor Group (TSG) are proposing to develop a 3D Flash LiDAR for MCM applications.
