Research abstract

In the proposed program, we will design, develop, and demonstrate a compact, self-powered optical sensing system for the detection, characterization, classification, and tracking of laser threats in cluttered environments. The system is based on off-axis detection of lasers based on port and aerosol scattering. The system will be designed to be man-wearable or vehicle-mountable, supporting distributed deployments. The system will provide off-axis laser detection across multiple spectral bands (VIS, NIR, SWIR). The proposed technology will enable timely warnings for incoming laser threats and classify their primary function, including targeting, sensing, or delivering directed energy.
