Research abstract

Spectral Labs will simulate the diagnostic training equipment related to the Precision Measurement Equipment Lab's Engine Test Stand, providing an immersive virtual environment and detailed modeling and simulation of all equipment required for the current training. In addition to the simulation and modeling effort, guided computer based training within the virtual environment will be developed so that the software may be used in an active training mode and an open simulation mode (sandbox mode). The developed training will be deployable on typical laptops through native software builds, in addition to being web deployable. The software will also be designed such that it may be easily ported for use with common off the shelf VR hardware (e.g., Oculus and HTC Vive), but will function properly without need of VR hardware.
