Research abstract

Spectral Labs’ AWISH concept will break the one-to-one Bluetooth pairing paradigm posed by COTS wearable devices which is required to allow a large number of wearable devices to upload their data to a hub system in a reasonable period of time.  Our proposed AWISH concept when implemented in a Navy ship, will allow retrieval of health/fatigue data from each sailor’s wearable from multiple areas in the ship while they perform their duties and/or congregate in common areas.   The ability to monitor and detect sleep-related fatigue data is critical to help officers account for fatigue-related risk when assigning duties.  A Phase I Base objective is to build an AWISH test bed as a proof-of-concept demonstration of our approach. A Phase I Option objective is to expand the AWISH test bed to demonstrate additional features of the proposed architecture.  The accomplishment of these two objectives will yield a Phase II system definition and implementation plan for an AWISH solution scalable to 1000+ users and upgradable to use any COTS wearable device and to run new algorithms producing health indicators of interest.
