Research abstract

The overall objective of this program is to develop a Multi-Frequency Shock-Hardened Antiship Fuze (MSAF) system utilizing a firing switch, a delay element, and high voltage capacitors, capable of surviving extreme high shock environments. During Phase I, McQ successfully developed and tested the critical fireset components (i.e. firing switches, delay elements, and high voltage capacitors) of a follow through fuze, through the development of a prototype fuze custom printed circuit board (PCB), shock tested the PCB to 60kG’s in an air gun, and performed dynamic shock simulation of the fuze PCB. During Phase II, McQ would extend the work performed in Phase I as follows: develop a fully functional follow through fuze, perform detailed electrical characterization of the fuze, develop the overall fuze packaging for maximum shock survivability, perform a series of high G testing of the fuze (with all fuze components powered on during the shock event as they would be in the final FTZ), and build/deliver a set of functional prototypes to NAVAIR at the conclusion of the project. Furthermore, McQ will integrate its existing high g data recorder into the fuze electronics, such that accurate acceleration data of MSAF shock events can be collected and analyzed.
