Research abstract

ENGIN-ICs objective in Phase II is to complete the design and layout of 20-dB gain, and > 25-dBm OIP3 Ka- and Q-band LNAs, requiring < 0.5 W DC power, using two short gate length pHEMT processes which can be space qualified.ENGIN-IC will fabricate and characterize the LNAs.Two design passes are planned, if needed, to fully comply with AFRL requirements.Waveguide and LCP packages for the LNAs will be demonstrated.ENGIN-IC will provide Ka- and Q-band LNAs that meet AFRL requirements, and a dual foundry source option that addresses a key dual source need.Radiation and environmental testing of LNAs in Phase 2 will demonstrate reliable LNAs, that can be space qualified in Phase 3.A prime will test LNAs from both processes in test fixtures, compare MMIC RF performance against current space hardware, and recommend how to proceed into production and flight hardware in Phase 3.
