Research abstract

The AF seeks cryo-vacuum Fourier Transform Spectrometer (FTS) system for use as a narrow-line infrared source for imaging sensor responsivity measurement characterization in space simulation test facilities. MicroXact Inc. proposes to develop a compact, portable, easily maintainable and upgradable by end user closed cycle refrigerator (CCR)-based FTS that will provide DoD, NASA and commercial users with a practical and cost effective solution. The key feature of the proposed cryo-vacuum FTS compared to competing approaches is the thermal conductivity management approach transferred from MicroXact cryogenic probe station technology, that reduces the thermal mass of the components to be cooled to below 30K, enabling the use of commercial-of-the-shelf CCRs , and tremendously reducing the cool-down time. In Phase I MicroXact will design the cryo-vacuum FTS and numerically demonstrate that it meets program objectives. In Phase II the prototype of cryo-vacuum FTS will be developed, tested at MicroXact and delivered to AFTC Arnold for qualification and testing. In Phase III MicroXact will transition the technology to manufacturing and will commercialize the cryo FTS.
