Research abstract

There is an unmet need for a lightweight, vehicle transportable potable water system capable of supplying 50 GPH for immediate consumption to support small Security Forces Assistance Brigade teams for an extended durations in austere environments. The requirements for this application are unique, primarily due to the weight (100 lbs, 2-man lift), power (28 V onboard power), time to treatment (10 minutes), and required flow (50 GPH). Several military potable water systems exist, but to meet the specific needs, a new, unique system is needed.TDA Research, Inc. proposes to develop an innovative water at the point of need Squad Level system specifically designed to meet Security Forces Assistance Brigade needs. Critically, all the component technologies needed to produce the desired system already exist and are commercial off-the-shelf parts. TDA will focus on component selection and system integration using proven technologies; the innovation required is in selection and packaging of component technologies to deliver the necessary capability. We will design the component systems and demonstrate the core technologies in the lab. These efforts will support a complete device design which will be used for a feasibility modeling assessment to determine if the system will meet the requirements.
