Research abstract

A key issue, identified as a result of our Phase I effort, is the overwhelming volume of tracks that must be processed by cUAS systems. As these systems struggle to keep up with the speed and scale of incoming UAS data, the need to handle large numbers of tracks in real-time becomes critical. Autonodyne – leader in the Command and Control (C2) architectures and autonomous systems for the unmanned space and Venator Solutions (Venator) – developer of a novel, hierarchical, decentralized, and distributed track/data fusion system will collaborate to close required gaps and deliver a targeted solution. The integration of emerging cUAS technologies and capabilities into existing C2 systems is essential to effectively manage and respond to these emerging UAS threats, without overloading operator burden. It is the belief of Autonodyne-Venator team, that current C2 systems are not optimized to operate at the speed required to make timely kill chain decisions – including those necessary to detect, track, identify/assess, and counter hostile sUAS devices. This delay in decision-making is particularly concerning when one operator is tasked with defending against a growing array of threats. In Phase I, the feasibility of integrating the Autonodyne and Venator products was explored and demonstrated as a potential solution to address these pressing issues. The investigation highlighted the need for enhanced integration speed between C2 systems and detect/track subsystems to cope with the rapidly growing UAS threat. Our findings underscore the importance of optimizing targeting and decision-making processes to augment existing cUAS capabilities; while ensuring they can effectively handle the increasing scale and speed of this evolving threat environment.
