Research abstract

The contemporary battlefield is evolving, marked by the rise of asymmetric threats that exploit commercially available technologies, such as drones and robotics. Recent global events, notably in Ukraine and Israel, have spotlighted the gravity of these threats, especially when executed en masse. These tactics challenge the traditional defense mechanisms of U.S. installations worldwide, underscoring a critical vulnerability.  In response to this urgent need, we introduce the Land Satellite ASEED (Attritable Sentry for Expeditionary Electronic Defense), a solution aligning with the SCO's emphasis on Autonomous Systems, Enhanced Surveillance, and Non-traditional Defense Technologies. Our innovation leverages commercial tech advancements, embodying a low-cost and rapidly deployable system along extensive perimeters. It’s mass producible and attritable, meaning it can be fielded in hundreds of thousands of units to defend vast areas. The Land Satellite ASEED, adapted from our commercial LandSat Lobo platform, is an autonomous, off-road electronic warfare system. It's solar-powered, ensuring sustained operations in the most remote settings, and designed for rapid deployment by minimal personnel or vehicles. Its core strength lies in its sensor-agnostic design, capable of hosting a diverse array of detection and mitigation tools, perfect for adapting to the fluid threat profiles across various global installations. Applications range from countering the rising threat of modified commercial UAVs to detecting enemy radios or cellphones. The system's built-in spectrum analyzer identifies potential threats by their radio emissions, alerting operators in real-time. This facilitates immediate countermeasures such as jamming signals- crucial for defending against the unpredictability of asymmetric warfare. Moreover, the Land Satellite ASEED's networking capabilities exemplify the power of IoT, operating both autonomously and cohesively with other systems, 24/7, without reliance on a central command. This feature is pivotal for creating an interconnected web of defense, significantly enhancing surveillance, reconnaissance, and threat mitigation capabilities. The hosted payloads can include a wide spectrum of systems, from spectrum analyzers and gunshot detection to UAV jammers and alarm, all operating via onboard DC to DC voltage converters. This versatility ensures the platform's relevance, adaptability, and longevity in the face of evolving threats. In essence, the Land Satellite ASEED is not just a solution but a strategic asset, a force multiplier in the U.S. defense arsenal, ready to be deployed en masse in response to the ever-changing nuances of global security challenges. It represents a proactive, scalable, and cost-effective approach to a world where threats are increasingly unconventional and unpredictable.
