Research abstract

Sonalysts is pleased to offer this proposal to apply accelerated learning techniques to combat the insider cyber threat. Accelerated learning is the accelerated development of persistent expertise in a domain. In other words, accelerated learning techniques are designed to increase the rate at which content is mastered and reduce the rate at which it atrophies during periods of disuse. These techniques can significantly reduce costs associated with developing and maintaining expertise. To achieve this goal, Sonalysts will focus our efforts on supporting “deliberate practice” for emerging experts. We will do so by creating a “serious game” that merges commercial gaming technology with state-of-the-art intelligent tutoring technology. Scaffolds within the game, based on our closed-loop adaptive training technology, will monitor student mastery, select appropriate activities/resources, assess student performance, and deliver guiding feedback. Sonalysts will apply the technological advances developed within this topic to create an interactive training environment that supervisory personnel will use to improve their ability to prevent, detect, and respond to malicious insider actions.
