Research abstract

The objective of the proposed research and development effort is to demonstrate the feasibility of an innovative technology that will degrade or eliminate the ability of a rocket motor's composite case to contain pressure when subjected to Fast or Slow Cookoff thermal conditions. The project team also proposes a new hypothesis to explain the fragment throwing phenomenon. During the proposed project, the feasibility of this approach to hazard mitigation will be experimentally demonstrated.
