Research abstract

The Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), U.S. Air Force and agencies like the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) have a current and future need for advanced commercially available inherently rad-hard primitive cell libraries to support new designs for satellites and other spacecraft. American Semiconductor Inc. proposes a new core cell library that can meet next generation high-altitude and space requirements based on Flexfet™ independent-double-gate, silicon-on-insulator, complimentary metal oxide semiconductor (IDG SOI-CMOS) technology for improved IC performance, cost and availability. This can enable next generation spacecraft for operations and missions with high density, low power, and high speed rad-hard components. Moreover these core cell libraries endow spacecraft designers with the ability to increase spacecraft performance over current designs with reduced chip area or less redundancy and improved low power and high speed reconfigurable performance. This Phase II SBIR proposal will result in a core cell library that designers can use to apply the benefits of Flexfet™ CMOS.
