Research abstract

The FCS (Future Combat Systems), WIN-T (Warfighter Information Network-Tactical), and JTRS (Joint Tactical Radio System) programs have all identified the need for secure and survivable ad hoc wireless tactical networks to support the network centric battlefield environment of the future. To address this need, Architecture Technology Corporation (ATC) will build and demonstrate STAMINA (Survivable Tactical Ad hoc Mobile Network Architecture), a collection of intrusion tolerance and survivability enhancements to CERDEC’s (US Army’s Communication-Electronics Research, Development and Engineering Center) TWNA (Tactical Wireless Network Assurance) architecture. STAMINA enhancements to TWNA will provide a powerful integrated information assurance and survivability architecture for future mobile tactical networks to protect them from sophisticated network and information attacks launched by adversaries to disrupt their operation. Building upon the successful results of the Phase I effort, ATC will implement the STAMINA software product and integrate it within TWNA during the Phase II effort. The different intrusion tolerance and survivability capabilities of STAMINA will be implemented as software appliqués that can be applied to critical components of the TWNA architecture to make them intrusion resistant.
