Research abstract

The Serverless Credential with Many-factor Authentication and Recognition Technology system (SCMART) allows users and soldiers to securely authenticate their identities at remote facilities without requiring their biometric data to be stored in a centralized database.  A DoD service or coalition partners can control the remote locations where identity authentication occurs.  SCMART significantly reduces the cyber-attack surface of the DoD’s biometric information.  SCMART prevents hackers from obtaining raw biometric information about an individual. More importantly, in the unlikely event that hackers were to gain a foothold within SCMART, SCMART’s design limits the damage to the compromise of a single person’s biometric data vs. wholesale exfiltration of personally identifiable information (PII) for hundreds or thousands of DoD personnel.
