Research abstract

Lynntech proposes to develop a compact, lightweight, disposable drug infusion pump with integrated safety features. These features include direct monitoring of the fluid flow, air bubble elimination, and inline air bubble detection. Fluid delivery is achieved using dual-diaphragm pump actuated via Lynntech's highly energy efficient electrochemical pump. In Phase I a prototype pump will be developed to demonstrate the feasibility of a ten-fold reduction in size and weight over conventional infusion pumps. The accuracy and reliability of the flow monitoring system will be demonstrated. In Phase II a fully functional infusion pump will be developed with a goal of achieving dimensions of 32mmx32mmx32mm, weight of 25 g and battery life of 2.5 days at a maximum flow rate of 8 ml/min.
