Research abstract

Phase I work evaluated use of a Linear Graph Iterator based system modeling and analysis approach for reconfiguration and recovery analysis of shipboard systems. During Phase II, EDD will work with Northrop Grumman Newport News at VASCIC (Virginia Advanced Shipbuilding and Carrier Integration Center) to use this approach to develop a prototype aircraft carrier electrical system operation decision aid. The proposed system will provide graphically displayed interdependent system analysis that includes the ability to evaluate real-time mission priority and equipment-compartment status driven: (1) Load shedding, (2) Equipment casualty and compartment damage isolation, and (3) Optimal restoration for multiple system and compartment damage contingencies. The approach is based on a combination of Generic Programming and Physical Network Modeling concepts that together mark a significant advancement in Object Oriented methodology. This combination provides the ability to integrate multiple analysis types across a broad scope of engineering problem domains at speeds that meet requirements for real-time control. Analysis types included with this are system and component level discrete control logic and switching analysis, physics based steady state and transient analysis, and probability and deterministic based reconfiguration and reliability analysis.
