Research abstract

The primary objective for the Phase II RAILS program is to successfully demonstrate a prototype system that stores, transports, and launches a 250-pound Small Cruise Missile (SCM), while also optimizing the logistics footprint by eliminating unnecessary components, incorporating modular design, and utilizing innovative manufacturing technologies. The RAILS project is broken down into five areas that will be addressed in Phase II: Launcher Design and Analysis, Subsystem Development, Testing Preparation, Manufacturing and Production Planning, and Subsystem and Full-Scale testing. Dynovas will demonstrate: Ability for the RAILS launcher to deploy a 250-lb munition simulant at a horizontal speed of 14-18 fps without the exit of extraneous material • Ability of the RAILS launcher container to provide storage and transport of a 250-lb SCM RAILS compatibility with a standard-length Type V pallet, ensuring proper installment without restricting normal movement of an aircraft ramp, Demonstrate compatibility with applicable aircraft interfaces • Rapid and traditional manufacturability of the RAILS subsystems • A path to manufacturing and cost optimization for future production Dynovas’ Rapid Additive Integrated Launcher System (RAILS) is a self-supported, universally adaptable, and reusable manufacturing system engineered to reliably support the transportation, storage, and deployment of multiple class munitions ranging in weight class from 100-lb to 1,000-lbs
