Research abstract

The Department of Defense (DoD) needs the ability to respond quickly to changing threat environments.  Current design modification and manufacturing processes can be slow and non-responsive.  New iterative/agile design and modification processes that embrace advanced manufacturing techniques to implement new materiel solutions quickly and efficiently are needed to address this gap.  This Phase 1 SBIR will research design concepts for a Common Launch Container (CLC) and evaluate advanced manufacturing processes and techniques for its production.  IS4S will use quality systems engineering (SE) practices to define and refine requirements/user needs and will research potential materiel solutions and processes.  IS4S will use these requirements and system models to create potential design concepts which will include the manufacturing methods required to produce the concept and an iterative process allowing for rapid medication and updates.  Each concept will be evaluated against the requirements and the manufacturing feasibility will be assessed.  A Level 1 technical data package (TDP) and a proposal for Phase II effort will be created for the highest assessed concept.  IS4S is confident in its ability to complete this effort proven by significant experience rapidly producing non-proprietary solutions for DOD customers and by experienced personnel with experience designing munitions handling equipment/storage solutions.
