Research abstract

MaxPower, Inc. is proposing an SBIR Phase II program responding to the Army's need for improved Li-ion chemistries. The Phase II program will focus on new solid-state polymer electrolytes and new gelled polymer electrolytes developed in the Phase I program. The Phase II Program will continue to optimize the properties of the solid-state polymer and gelled polymer electrolytes. In addition, major emphases in the Phase II program will be placed on development of Li and Li-ion cells and batteries designed to meet important Army requirements such as those for Land Warrior applications and for storage as defined by the Army's Desert Storm Requirements. The proposed program on solid-state and gelled polymer electrolyte batteries will include improved anode and cathode materials for high rate application (1C rate or higher) and improved capacity retention during cycling over the required temperature range of -40ºC to 70ºC.
