Research abstract

For Phase II, Lynntech proposes to implement the adhesively bonded stack technology developed in Phase I in a full-size, closed-loop, regenerative fuel cell energy storage system (ESS). The ESS will be capable of delivering 34 kW of peak power and will demonstrate a roundtrip efficiency of up to 60%! The ESS will include the use of efficient balance-of-plant components, and components necessary for long-term operation such as water treatment and inert gas handling. Electrolyzer operation up to 1200 psig system pressure and 200 psig differential will be demonstrated. ESS performance verification testing will include operational envelope determination, cycling characterization, and endurance testing. A 34 kW fuel cell and 40 kW electrolyzer will be delivered for field-testing along with a final report of the project results.
