Research abstract
The Daedalus ATL system delivers a resilient, GPS-independent Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) capability that directly addresses the Department of Defense’s urgent need to mitigate the threat of GPS jamming, spoofing, and signal disruptions. By harnessing “signals of opportunity” from non-cooperative Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite constellations, Daedalus provides warfighters with uninterrupted PNT data in contested environments where adversaries target GPS vulnerabilities. Unlike conventional solutions, Daedalus’s phased-array antenna and software-defined radio (SDR) architecture eliminate reliance on large, dish-shaped antennas or extensive terrestrial infrastructure. This low size, weight, and power (SWaP) design seamlessly integrates with existing systems via standard GPS interfaces, providing a drop-in replacement for critical missions. Leveraging advanced signal-processing techniques—such as Time-Difference of Arrival (TDoA) and robust error-correction algorithms—the system continuously calibrates for Doppler shifts, atmospheric variations, and hardware offsets. The result is reliable and highly accurate timing and navigation in the face of jamming or spoofing attacks. Key Competitive Advantages for DoD Missions:Assured Operations in Contested Domains: By drawing on multiple LEO constellations, Daedalus maintains full operational capability—even if GPS is fully denied—ensuring continuity for ISR, cyber, special operations, and command-and-control assets.Rapid, Scalable Deployment: The flat-panel phased-array antenna is compact, easily concealed, and can be fielded quickly across forward bases or integrated into diverse platforms without major hardware overhauls.Alignment with DoD Operational Imperatives: Daedalus enhances space resilience, supports advanced battle management systems, and provides assured PNT for agile basing and readiness to fight, meeting the Secretary of the Air Force’s top priorities.Future-Proof Architecture: Built on SDR technology and open standards, Daedalus can adapt to emerging threats, new satellite constellations, and evolving mission requirements with minimal hardware modifications.Having reached Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 5–6, Daedalus is already validated through prototype field tests and is poised for rapid transition to Phase III procurement. Backed by strong partnerships within DoD and a clear commercialization pathway, the Daedalus ATL system stands ready to deliver a decisive operational advantage—protecting mission-critical capabilities in the most challenging and dynamic threat environments.
