Research abstract

The Army needs to train and assist soldiers in explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) in a variety of scenarios, many of which are logistically difficult to set up training for, or are of low priority. This situation presents an opportunity to apply extended reality (XR) technology. When properly implemented an XR training and operational support platform can train and prepare EOD technicians for scenarios, such as those encountered in large-scale combat operations as virtual and augmented reality simulations can be vast, multi-user and instantly reset.  In this proposal Company details a hardware-agnostic platform that takes soldiers from a synthetic training environment (fully immersed virtual reality) in the “classroom”, and transitions to mixed reality field training and virtually assisted augmented reality support. The proposed solution is based on best practices from our extensive deployment of extended reality products commercial for the Federal Government and for the DoD. The proposed dual-use solution includes a no-code authoring platform to give the Army a layer of future-proofing, and the option to scalably add more use cases in the future without increasing costs.
