Research abstract

The USSF needs to visualize and understand the complex space environment to enhance space domain awareness (SDA) for operators and improve the quality of SDA decision-making. Augmented. mixed and virtual reality (AR, MR, and VR, or collectively extended reality - XR) offer an unprecedented opportunity to visualize space-related data spatially in 3D to enhance space domain awareness and support agile decision-making.  USSF Guardians work with highly abstract and distant concepts and operations, often needing to pull data from multiple sources. For space operators, this has historically limited their ability to interact with data in a hands-on manner. The intangibility creates challenges for experiential learning, which is often extremely beneficial when solving complex problems. Dauntless XR proposes research to adapt their existing multi-user XR data visualization platform, Aura to ensure Guardians maintain strategic and tactical force dominance over potential adversaries by enabling better training, planning, design, knowledge capture, and more. The proposed space domain common operating picture, delivered in multiuser XR using Dauntless XR's Aura solution has the potential to bring cutting-edge big data toolsets to Guardians in an immersive and interactive approach that enables creative problem-solving.
