Research abstract

SOpsSim-RSDT is physics based with detailed spacecraft models, orbital environment effects, and an analyst workstation. It models prox-ops between servicing-inspection vehicles and Resident Space Objects (RSOs). It processes real or simulated signaturedata. Outputs describe RSO system state.Phase I proved the feasibility of a least squares estimator which converges on RSO mass distribution and attitude motion. Mass properties, attitude, and angular velocity trajectories were extracted from real and synthetic attitude pose sequences. In PhaseII, perturbation torques will be added, and algorithms refined to automate solution search and increase accuracy. Results will be applied to a new attitude based drag model which may increase the accuracy of leading industry High Precision OrbitPropagators.Phase II increases SOpsSim fidelity by modeling the AFRL/VS XSS-11 prox-ops spacecraft. SOpsSim CW relative orbit and quaternion attitude propagation equations tested during Phase I were capable of reversing time. Phase II develops an algorithm to record, for subsequent reversal, each thruster firing and resulting trajectory change. XSS-11 operators will be able to explore potential maneuvers forward and backward in time, and choose an optimum maneuver plan. Visualization tools such as a relative orbitfuture trajectory
