Research abstract

High energy lasers are an emerging threat to ground troops and front-line soldiers. Current laser eyewear protection (LEP) tends to be expensive and prone to damage in operational environments. Ruggedized eyewear with rapidly exchangeable lenses will be developed that satisfies the Navyís cost goals at full rates of production. In Phase I, we will focus on the development of lens materials that can effectively protect against common laser threats in the near-infrared, without significant interference in the visible region.
