Research abstract

In the current battlefields exposure of warfighters to lasers, particularly high energy lasers, has become a common place.ÝLasers pose a significant risk to damaging warfightersí vision by damaging and scarring tissue.Ý Todayís laser systems may utilize wavelengths ranging from the ultraviolet into the infrared with irradiances exceeding 10ÝW/cm2 and power exceeding 500ÝW.Ý Current laser protection systems suffer several limitations including cost, easy to damage, and limited compatibility with issued ballistic protection eyewear.Ý The Navy and the DoD are looking for new laser protection technology that overcome limitations in existing systems.Ý Lynntech is proposing the development of new laser protection technology that are compatible with existing ìclip-inî ballistic goggles that meet the critical challenges exerted by todayís higher energy lasers.Ý Lynntechís new technology is intended to augment the safety capabilities offered to warfighters to enhance their readiness and performance on the battlefield.
