Research abstract

The Defense Health Agency seeks to develop a technology that provides reliable control of junctional hemorrhage while being readily accessible at the point of injury and intuitive for use by non-medical personnel. Critical Innovations, in conjunction with Captain David Tanen, MD, FAAEM, FACMT (USN, Ret.), and former Commander Denise Whitfield, MD, FACEP have formed a team of experts to address this important need. During this Phase II project, our objective will be to further develop the dual-use Aid-Tex™ Wearable e-Textile System for Control of Junctional and Extremity Hemorrhage, a paradigm-shifting technology that automatically senses and deploys a junctional tourniquet upon injury to stop both junctional and distal extremity bleeding. Phase II technical objectives include: completion of program-specific onboarding of requirements, goals, and schedule; production of a refined prototype following an agile engineering approach; performance of additional studies to demonstrate product stability and operational effectiveness; and maintenance of all program-specific regulatory compliance requirements. By the end of this program, Critical Innovations will have developed a refined prototype that addresses applicable treatment requirements.
