Research abstract

The Defense Health Agency seeks to develop a technology that provides reliable control of junctional hemorrhage while being readily accessible at the point of injury and intuitive for use by non-medical personnel. Critical Innovations, in conjunction with Captain David Tanen, MD, FAAEM, FACMT (USN, Ret.), and former Commander Denise Whitfield, MD, FACEP have formed a team of experts to address this important need. During this Phase I project, our objective will be to develop the dual-use Aid-Tex™ Wearable e-Textile System for Control of Junctional and Extremity Hemorrhage, a paradigm-shifting technology that automatically senses and deploys a junctional tourniquet upon injury to stop both junctional and distal extremity bleeding. Phase I technical objectives include: completion of program-specific onboarding of requirements, goals, and schedule; production of a proof-of-concept prototype following an iterative engineering approach; performance of feasibility testing of the developing subsystems and proof-of-concept prototype; and maintenance of all program-specific regulatory compliance requirements. By the end of this program, Critical Innovations will have developed a proof-of-concept prototype that addresses applicable treatment requirements.
