Research abstract

Current underwater electromagnetic (UEM) measurement systems on the market are often bulky, limited to specific sensors, and lack the flexibility for ad-hoc, stand-alone operations. Additionally, many existing systems have not fully leveraged recent advancements in sensor technology, power efficiency, and miniaturization. To address these limitations, Makai Ocean Engineering (Makai) proposes the NEMO System ñ Nautical ElectroMagnetic Observer, a compact UEM sensor capable of simultaneous magnetic and electric field measurements along all three orthogonal axes. The system will integrate a pressure sensor for depth monitoring and is designed for deployment on the seafloor, ensuring high-quality, long-duration measurements for up to seven days.
