Research abstract

AretÈ proposes to build a Compact Rugged Electromagnetic Sensing Suite (CRESS) which anchors itself to the bottom after a freefall deployment. CRESS features low noise electric and magnetic field sensing built off AretÈís proven electromagnetic velocity sensor Hanna. CRESS incorporates a variety of ancillary sensors like a 9-degree of freedom IMU to aid data collection and interpretation. CRESS will be hand deployable from small vessels allowing the Navy to quickly set up EM sensing capabilities for in water testing. The sensor and data package is released from its anchor after a set time period (e.g., 7 days) or when commanded via an acoustic signal. This package then floats to the surface for retrieval.
