Research abstract
This effort focuses on advancing large-scale, autonomous 3D concrete printing technology to support rapid infrastructure deployment in austere environments. The technology enables the automated construction of durable structures, reducing reliance on traditional supply chains and minimizing manpower requirements. By leveraging advanced materials and robotic automation, this solution enhances expeditionary basing, energy resilience, and force projection capabilities. During this effort, a large-scale 3D printing system will be deployed to an operational military installation to construct a bathhouse, demonstrating its effectiveness in real-world conditions. Following this initial deployment, the system will transition to an educational and training environment where it will be used to prepare future personnel in advanced construction methodologies. The goal is to provide hands-on experience with emerging additive manufacturing technologies, ensuring readiness for future deployments. The project aligns with ongoing research and development efforts to improve rapid construction techniques, reduce logistical burdens, and increase infrastructure resilience in contingency operations. By integrating autonomous construction capabilities, this effort aims to enhance operational agility and sustainability, paving the way for broader adoption across various mission sets.
