Research abstract

Triton Systems proposes to continue development of “prototype networking platform capable of relaying real-time information on personnel health status and location during shipboard damage control activities. This platform should be fully capable of pushing continuous data steams through shipboard spaces to Surface Forces supported wireless systems, such as ship’s Wi-Fi, land mobile radio (LMR) leaky coax antenna system, or the Command Readiness, Endurance and Watchstanding (CREW) platform hardware and integrating data into a flexible graphical user interface (GUI) positioned at command and control nodes throughout a ship and robust data management and analytic capabilities for post-event assessments (e.g., mishap investigations).”In SBIR Phase I, Triton developed the concept of data movement from the damage control personnel to the Disaster Control Center personnel that collected physiological data at a node within the disaster compartment, transmitted these data to a node exterior to the disaster compartment and then moved data through a series of nodes until competent shipboard Wi-Fi was available to communicate with the ship’s Damage Control Center (DCC).  Triton developed a prototype system and confirmed functionality of the proof-of-concept.In Phase II (Base and Option), Triton continues maturation of CACES through hardware (thermal protection, umbilical cable strength, human factors form (ease of handling), haptic device (communication to disaster recovery personnel), battery protection, system portability and battery charging), electrical (electrical power, rf signal integrity, node mesh configuration, Wi-Fi and BluetoothLE compatibility with third-party physiological sensors and data communication to and with the DCC) and software (communications (2-way; to/from DCC and damage control personnel), mesh control and system health monitoring).  Once developed, Triton plans to conduct a Preliminary Design Review (PDR) prior to system procurement, fabrication and assembly.  Thereafter, Triton plans to conduct laboratory evaluation of the system, conduct a Test Readiness Review, conduct evaluations in a government shipboard mockup facility and system qualification with a third-party subcontractor.  Triton will also submit a Phase III Transition Plan for commercialization.  At the conclusion of Phase II, Triton plans to deliver at least 2 prototype systems, detailed design specifications and technical data package drawings that ensure IP protection. In SBIR Phase III, Triton would conduct any further system qualifications efforts and effectuate the Transition Plan for low-rate manufacturing of Triton’s CACES capability.  Triton plans to support the US Navy in developing the resulting technology for use across the full spectrum of operationally-relevant conditions/environments and account for applicable ship-class specific variations that might impact functionality (e.g., in-hull designs and metallurgy).
