Research abstract

End to End Enterprise Solutions (E3S) is proposing a Phase 1 effort that will consider a digital twin (DT) enabled shipboard damage control (DC) reasoning platform based on E3S’s existing technology known as the Navy Incident Management Battlespace Engine (NIMBLE™). NIMBLE™ will optimize DC responses and mitigate crew casualties by automatically relaying DC responder health/equipment status and movement/location data within shipboard spaces providing real-time actionable data streams to shipboard emergency response command nodes. E3S will develop a proof-of-concept prototype addressing the prioritized technology gaps. Specifically, E3S will assess the feasibility of, specifying a preliminary design and preparing a prototyped demonstration for a DC platform and architecture that is: Capable of relaying real-time information on DC responder personnel health status and location during shipboard DC activities; Fully capable of relaying continuous data streams through shipboard spaces to Surface Forces using existing modern shipboard wireless systems as appropriate; Equipped with robust data management and analytic capabilities for post-event assessments; and Capable of integrating data into a flexible graphical user interface (GUI) positioned at emergency response command and control nodes throughout a ship. NIMBLE™ will enhance understanding of the specific physiological and cognitive stressors associated with shipboard damage control activities. Leveraging many of the software components that exist today will provide a complete overview of sailors' positions, actions, and physiological states during critical situations. By integrating semantic AI with the use of DTs and AI models, our proposed solution is set to revolutionize DC operations. This innovative approach empowers both onboard and ashore leadership to make informed, timely decisions and significantly improves their capacity to manage DC efforts effectively, while also providing a deeper understanding of how these efforts impact the overall mission. This holistic view is vital for enhancing operational efficiency and ensuring the safety and well-being of personnel and assets. In essence, E3S’s solution is not just about upgrading technology; it’s about fundamentally transforming the way the Navy approaches DC operations, leading to improved safety, and efficiency, and ultimately, saving lives and assets.
